Here’s my money quote from your piece: “But vulnerability is universal, and we can all use a warm blanket or a comforting meal from time to time.”

This is a truth universally acknowledged. (Interesting to note that once I typed the word “truth,” Siri suggested “universally acknowledged”. Is AI getting smarter or simply better read?)

I’m her stepmother in law and the very grateful recipient of Alison’s carrots and sweet potatoes and tahini and honey dish. Those carrots had been waiting for her for at least a month! Made no difference. And the fact that she and J and their inspired menus were here in Spartan Michigan, well that’s a comfort blanket of another kind!

I love tahini veggies! And the NYT skillet spanakopita recipe is divine and beautiful and hugely time-consuming like most of their recipes.

When my dad was going through a series of surgeries, we made sure he had the special warm blanket. When he was feeling goofy (a rare emotion for him those days), he would hug it and call it mother. I’ve considered putting a hot water bottle in my husband’s and my bed to warm it up before we crawl in at night. There’s something about a cozy warm blanket that is so incredibly comforting.

I hope all went well with the MRI. And how exciting that your treatment will be winding down in the next few months.

It sounds like you’re getting well organized for your move. I hope you can also take advantage of this beautiful Seattle day. Sun! In the middle of October! After a spectacular weekend! Sorry, this is very random.

I cannot wait to make these carrots this week and your chanterelle chicken pie looks divine! Whenever I go in for my neurology checks, it's always so freezing--the nurses with their blankets save me every time :)

This sounds delicious! And yes to the warm blankets! I had to have an endoscopy in early fall and was so cold as I waited. The offer of warm blankets was heavenly!

How do the blankets stay warm? No more microwaving them?

They keep them in some sort of warming cabinet. They lose their heat after a while, but usually the nurses are pretty good about checking in and bringing more. Only once did I experience them running out of blankets at the infusion center.

Nice. I remember once I was given a tin foil blanket. NASA inspired.
