I loved everything about this, Alison. The beautiful island pics - what a place to escape to, the delicious looking cakes and an easy Ottolenghi recipe!! I’ve often looked at that recipe and wondered what it would be like. Now I will definitely give it a go
Hi Debbie - I am so glad we found each other! I just subscribed to your stack (thanks for joining mine) and love your profile picture. Your most recent post resonates. It is pouring rain on this Seattle morning. I ate some buckwheat cereal with figs, will go for a swim, and then will settle in for a soothing (I hope) day of writing. I agree with your sentiment of appreciating simple pleasures.
Congrats on your anniversary and DEAR GOD that chocolate raspberry cake looks good! Over on Womancake I've been asking women about their favorite guilty pleasures, and I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that chocolate is by far the winner. I used to indulge monthly just before my period, but now that whole thing is unpredictable so I don't eat it as much. Once my cycle is all done I'm going to celebrate every full moon with a great big chocolate splurge, and I'm reserving that cake recipe for the occasion!
I miss the intensity of the monthly chocolate craving and release. Also, while eating that cake last night I discovered that you and I both know @stephaniealterjones (she’s here. I just can’t tag her).
We need LOTS of cake! I don't cook/bake at all anymore... But I do live for the food porn I see from you and other friends who are foodies. Happy Anniversary! I hope to visit you someday and you can feed my soul.
Also - I haven't forgotten that you are the person who lured me onto Facebook to begin with and then posted a pic of me wielding a fake ouzi :). The rest is history.
I love being in one of the communities with which you share cake!!

Love the pictures, especially those of cake, and even more liked all the book club links. You’ve given me a new thing to do.
Re August. It occurred to me here in Philadelphia that there’s not a single PBS or NPR fundraiser in sight.
Yum!
I just went picking huckleberries with some deer friends, talking over other mutual friends and many, many memories from over the years.
I love huckleberries. The name, the taste, the size...
Me too! And them in pie :)

I only know her through Substack, but hopefully we can all meet up one of these days!
No - you were her daughter’s voice teacher!
Oh, thanks for the reminder! That was years ago now :)
Alicia, you were my daughter Juliette’s first voice teacher!!
I hope our substacking and life paths will cross again one of these days!
Hi, Stephanie! Thanks for reminding me :) I hope so, too. Please give my best to Juliette.
Will do-we have enjoyed following your evolving, growing platform!
That's great to hear, thanks so much! Lots more to come in the next year, stay tuned.
And no regrets
That Greek yogurt cheesecake recipe looks amazing
It's soooo good!!!!

Deal. Maybe in Portugal!
Or sooner... Would love to see the PSW again.
