I was so disappointed in the Shteyngart book. I enjoyed Super Sad True Love Story and Absurdistan, and had looked forward to reading it when it came out. So disappointing. Happy for your glimmers, though!

The gorge sounds divine and your recipes... huzzah! You nailed it on the Shteyngart ending feeling rushed and slightly implausible. Still, I love him for trying, and I was moved by the loss he portrayed. Would that we could all teach one three month class and have the other nine for writing... a good gig, no doubt :)

I was not aware of generation Jones, but it is so appropriate that I belong! Cuing up the Bombay chili and coriander chicken!

Dot's Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Sticks are sweet, salty, cinnamon-y, and crunchy. They take the edge off doomscrolling.

This was a wonderful read. We were delighted to see that you’re doing so well and eating so well too!

I have avoided the need for doomscrolling food I avoid doomscrolling & try to stick to joy scrolling things like weird stuff in Philadelphia, our new home! Nonetheless I favor ruffles (as in have ridges)

Indeed! If there’s one thing a man needs, it’s a good salty snack.

What a lovely time at the Gorge! I will try your recipes--I need inspiration.

My go-to doom scrolling food? Popcorn with tons of butter and salt, maybe? something easy and fast and not uber-healthy.

Popcorn is a great snack idea. Some people love it with nutritional yeast - I’ve had that a few times and it’s good. In his book, Grains for Every Season, Joshua McFadden offers some popcorn suggestions. Maybe I’ll share these in an upcoming post. Thanks for the inspiration!

Yummy. Please do!! It’s a whole grain, so occasionally it’s part of my dinner.
