A year ago, I was recovering from breast cancer surgery and forbidden to move my arm, which meant I was unable to cook Thanksgiving dinner, a meal I have cooked without fail under all sorts of circumstances — in India, on a houseboat in Boston, where we had to use dental floss instead of twine, and in tiny Pacific Northwest cabins.
This year, our house is under renovation, and though I am able to cook, there are constraints —mainly trying to find things.
But the bird is dry-brining in the fridge and the painters are taking tomorrow off and hopefully I’ll get the dining room table cleared off and will be able to produce what is likely to be my last Thanksgiving dinner in the US for a while.
Needless to say, there has not been time to write, as I have spent weeks hiding from flooring guys and painters in different rooms of my house, digging through rubble to find stuff, and making myself crazy ordering the things we need to transform our funky 115 year-old house into an attractive Air BnB.
Cue the martinis.
So I am very pleased to announce an upcoming collaboration with another foodie Substacker, which should be published on December 11 and which I will share with you here.
December 11 is also a big day for me for other reasons…
Stay tuned, and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! I hope you enjoy a lovely day. If you feel like it, please share your favorite recipes and/or traditions in the comments.
Wishing you and your fam the merriest Thanksgiving! Congrats on getting through it all. :)
